Sweet news for winter maintenance Transportation Professional October 2005
Trials of a new winder maintenance material containing a by-product of sugar production are indicating operational benefits and significant reduced corrosion rates.
Positive feedback has come from local authorities that have piloted use of a new mix of rock salt and a by-product from sugar production. This according to The De-icing Business, which is also claiming to offer an 82% reduction in corrosion rate through use of its new material Thawrox Plus.

High tech tracks council fleet operations LAWE October 2005
On the fleet management front, The De-icing Business has been working closely with local authorities for over 20 years and some time ago developed a device to track and monitor gritters. The system proved to be very successful and it was widely adopted. Following extensive customer feedback and further development a new system, Exactrak was launched by The De-icing Business, in August 2004.

Sugar reduces bounce off Landscape and Equipment October 2005
A recent development, and a product that appears to combine the ease of use of dry salt together with the adhesive properties of brine, is Thawrox Plus. Salt was first used experimentally as a de-icing material in the US in the mid 1930s. from the late 1950/60s onwards it became widely adopted across the US and Europe due to its cost effectiveness, efficiency and ready availability.

Combatting corrosion Highways April 2005
A NEW anti-corrosion gritting product - Thawrox 6mm rock salt with Safecote - has been hailed following its first full winter in use. The pre-mixed product - which suppliers, The De-icing Business, have recently re-christened Thawrox+ - helps prevent corrosion and improve the operational efficiency of gritters.
